ASA 114, Cruising Catamaran
Capable of skippering a 30 to 45-foot auxiliary-powered cruising catamaran for multi-day liveaboard trips in inland or coastal waters, handling moderate to heavy winds (up to 30 knots) and sea conditions. Proficient in understanding catamaran structure, components, and performance under sail and power, as well as boat systems, seamanship, safety, heavy weather tactics, and emergency response.

Catamaran Handling: Learn to skipper a cruising catamaran of approximately 30 to 45 feet in length, focusing on the unique handling characteristics of multi-hulls.

Performance Under Sail and Power: Understand how a catamaran performs under sail and engine power, including techniques for efficient operation and manoeuvring.

Boat Systems: Gain knowledge of the systems specific to catamarans, including electrical, plumbing, and rigging systems.

Seamanship and Safety: Emphasize seamanship skills tailored to catamarans, including safety practices, emergency procedures, and handling heavy weather conditions.

Heavy Weather Operation: Develop strategies for operating a catamaran in challenging weather conditions, including reefing, storm tactics, and stability considerations.

After completing ASA 114, students are certified to skipper a cruising catamaran on multi-day liveaboard cruises, both inland and coastal, in moderate to heavy winds and sea conditions.
